Sparky the Fire Dog became the official, trademarked mascot and "spokes dog" of the NFPA in 1951. The NFPA says that thanks to Sparky's "dogged determination" he has undisputedly helped reduce loss and injuries associated with fire in the United States.
The NFPA is a global, self funded non profit organization. They are devoted to their mission which is eliminating death, injury, property and economic loss related to fire, electrical and related hazards.
Wakefield Fire will be adding Sparky to our roster this week as we share important safety messages like "Stop, Drop and Roll"; "Get out, stay out"; "Dial 911"; and "Know two ways out". You might even see him hanging around the website this week!

Everyones home is different which means their escape plans might be different! Check out Sparky's escape plan. Make sure you have:

Did you know that fire can double in size every 60 seconds? In today's homes, fires burn faster than ever. The NFPA says that you may have as little as 2 minutes (or less) to safely escape a home fire from the time that the smoke alarm sounds.
Generally, a fire needs to be extinguished within 3 minutes from the time of inception save a home. Have a plan for everyone in the home, including the pets, to safely and quickly escape.

When creating and practicing your home escape plan take into account everyone in the home. Do some people have trouble hearing, seeing or walking? Do they use Oxygen or CPAP?
